    The Role

    The Cyber Security Researcher/Analyst role provides “Blue Team” functions to the SOC to support the defence of our clients’ systems.


    Key Areas of Responsibility

    • Maintain the security of our clients’ systems, and help the team to protect, detect and respond to security incidents
    • Understand how threat attacks to clients’ systems can be applied, detected and defended against through continuous learning and skills development
    • Perform research and analysis of threat attacks as they are played out
    • Develop responses to attacks and communicate these to the client within SLAs
    • Continuously develop and adapt the systems that we build and manage to ensure they maintain security in the face of new threats to, and changes in, the clients’ environments


    Key Measures

    • Demonstrate technical capability in key functional areas of the systems
    • Show a good understanding of current threats, vulnerabilities, attacks and mitigations
    • Provide timely, well researched and accurate responses with actionable intelligence to clients
    • Update skills and knowledge in areas that are directly applicable to the job functions
    • Develop new rules, signatures and knowledge bases for the key detection technologies in accordance with relevant threat intelligence


    Key Skills/Requirements

    • Learning, self-motivation
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity threats, attacks. Knowledge of target systems
    • Understanding of modern computer networking
    • Knowledge in key functional areas including TCP/IP networking, Linux Operating Systems, iptables firewalling, Ossec/Wazuh, Squid, Apache, Nginx, postfix, Snort, Suricata, Bro, Modsecurity
    • Scripting and secure configuration of systems
    • Security management of other systems including Windows, Cisco is also desirable
    • ECSC Labs developed systems
