Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario and our goal is to create a transportation network that enhances the prosperity, sustainability and quality of life for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. We lead planning in the region with a Regional Transportation Plan that guides the work and investments of the organization. This includes building light transit, bus rapid transit and Regional Express Rail, as well as operating GO Transit, UP Express and PRESTO.


Our Capital Projects Group, Non Alternative Financing Procurement (AFP) Early Works office is seeking a Junior Project Coordinator to work with our Kitchener corridor project, assisting with day-to-day activities through the various stages of project design and construction in support of new and ongoing Regional Express Rail construction programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Working with the project delivery team, Junior Project Coordinators assist in coordinating projects through all stages of design and construction in terms of function, quality, budget, schedule and approvals in co-ordination with external authorities and internal stakeholders.
  • Administering consulting agreements and construction contracts for the maintenance, rehabilitation and expansion of Metrolinx’s network and infrastructure.
  • Identifying and recommending physical infrastructure projects with respect to rehabilitation of Metrolinx facilities and coordinating the implementation of approved projects.
  • Forecasts, monitors and reports all capital project expenditures such as consultant fees, purchase orders, construction contracts and change orders.
  • Coordinate engineering consultant services for the design and execution of infrastructure projects for new construction and upgrades to Railway, Stations, Parking, Structures, Track and Signal infrastructure.
  • To ensure compliance with Metrolinx standards and policies, Provincial Legislation, regulated railway standards, Transport Canada regulations and guidelines, design code practices, applicable safety legislation, and internal and external stakeholder requirements.
  • Prepares, coordinates and submits specifications for construction and consultant contracts for tendering and procurement of design and construction services.
  • Ensures project documentation is tracked and kept up-to-date; works in project management, digital file management, and construction scheduling software environments.
  • Performs site reviews/audits to ensure contractors and consultants are working in compliance with their contracts with an emphasis on maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Ensures proper commissioning and acceptance of completed smaller-scale projects for hand over to the internal client.
  • Prepares performance evaluations for consultants and contractors and prepares project post-evaluation reports including project cost analyses and lessons learned.

Qualifications
  • Community college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience related to the design and construction of transit or similar public facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and co-ordinating contracted engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of project management, including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate policies and procedures, and applicable contract legislation with an understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently, strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, and analytical ability.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications.
  • Must have a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence and successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training and certification required by corporate policy.
