About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a capable and motivated individual to join Council’s Open Space and Natural Resources (OS&NR) team on a permanent full time basis. The position works a 35 hour week and is located at Council’s Rydalmere Operations Centre at 316 Victoria Road Rydalmere.

The position plays a leading role in the delivery of Council’s Public Tree Management Program and will work in close collaboration with the OS&NR team, and other government organisations to deliver best practice public tree management outcomes for Council’s natural areas and urban forest


Key responsibilities:

  • To assess tree risk, using the Quantitative Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) or Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) methods
  • To inspect and assess tree removal and pruning requests from the public and Council staff including correspondence;
  • To manage the planning, implementation and review of tree planting and revegetation programs in accordance with established timelines, budget, Council policies and related legislation;
  • To prepare procurement and contract documentation for public tree related projects;
  • To project manage contracts and external contractors and to inspect works to ensure quality outcomes;
  • To provide professional and technical advice and guidance on various planning instruments (LEP, DCP), legislation, studies, policies and strategies relating to tree management;
  • To negotiate, mediate and resolve complex tree related issues and make decisions with delegated authority to achieve positive outcomes;
  • To program and implement tree related actions from various Council plans including the Biodiversity Plan, Environmental Sustainability Strategy, Open Space Plan, various Plans of Management and Master Plans, as well as state and federal plans as they relate to tree management.
  • Report to and assist the Supervisor Open Space & Natural Resources in tree management issues and matters as required.

About the person
The successful candidate will have a Diploma in Arboriculture (AQF level 5) or equivalent and strong technical knowledge of arboricultural best practice with extensive experience in conducting visual tree assessments in both natural and urban areas using either QTRA or TRAQ methods. The individual will preferably have 10 years or more experience in arboricultural risk assessment and a demonstrated proficiency in resolving complex tree related issues.

It is essential that the individual holds a current Class C Drivers licence.

The position operates within a professional team environment and the individual will require excellent communication, computer literacy and contract management skills.

What’s on offer
Council is offering an attractive salary from $88,923.28 to $97,903.32 p.a. plus superannuation. City of Parramatta also offers excellent employee benefits.
