Reporting to the Director International Markets, Department for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Regional Director, MENA & India (Dubai) will play a critical role in identifying market opportunities and driving trade and investment outcomes for South Australia.

Co-located with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), this executive role will promote and support South Australian businesses in the MENA and India regions, by building and leveraging established networks to take advantage of commercial opportunities. Representing South Australian business interests at the highest levels will be a core responsibility.

Suitably qualified applications are sought from candidates with strong, high-level business and government networks in the MENA and India regions, complemented by a sophisticated understanding of South Australia’s business capability and international competitiveness.

The candidate will have commercial and political acumen, along with excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder management and leadership skills. A critical part of the role will involve timely dissemination of information back to South Australian industry, identifying strategic opportunities and overcoming key challenges. Maximum flexibility and pragmatism are also necessary to influence and succeed in this role.

Note that:

  • This is a contract role for up to 3 years in Dubai, UAE.
  • Fluency in English is essential and may be tested prior to interview
  • To be eligible for employment, applicants must have (or be eligible to obtain) authorisation to reside and work in the UAE.
  • Prior to engagement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo an Australian Government security clearance.
  • Relevant business, economics and related tertiary qualifications will be looked upon favourably.
  • Candidates with established business networks in Australia, the MENA and broader India regions are preferred.
  • A proven track record in international business development is essential.
  • Arabic language skills will be an advantage.
