We teach learners and teachers of English face-to-face in dedicated teaching centres and online through a range of courses. Every year three million people take international exams with help from the British Council, gaining qualifications that can open doors at leading academic institutions and improve employment prospects.


We are recruiting highly motivated and qualified EFL teachers to join our teaching team. To be considered, you will need to have an undergraduate degree (any discipline) and have at least 2 years post-certificate (i.e. Cambridge CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience gained through teaching a variety of levels and age groups including Young Learners. Experience with teaching large classes, military personnel and teenage students would be an asset.

The core aims of the role are:

  • To plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English language classes and/or corporate training sessions either at our Teaching Centre or as part of a training project with the Qatar Navy. This project is in the third year of a 3-year contract to train 500 Officers / Petty Officers and Ratings before they move abroad to continue their military training.
  • To develop materials, taking account of individual learning styles and ensuring a welcoming, professional learning environment. Any staff without DELTA-level qualifications will be aspiring to deliver at that level and will be working towards that aim, supported by the management team and teaching colleagues.
  • o conduct placement testing as required and carry out core administrative tasks to assist the project in reaching its audience and customer satisfaction targets and in functioning efficiently and smoothly.
  • To engage in continued professional development in order to keep up-to-date with developments in the field and to facilitate consistent provision of high quality teaching.

Essential Requirements

  • High level of proficiency in English (equivalent to CEF C2, IELTS 8.5)
  • First Degree
  • CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL
  • More than 1,600 hours of recent and relevant post-certificate EFL experience in both Adults and YLs


Desirable Requirements

  • Diploma (DELTA or Trinity TESOL)
  • CELT-YL, TYLEC, DELTA YL specialism, PGCE
  • IELTS examiner status
  • Experience in English for Special Purposes (ESP) and/or Teacher Training
