Position Summary:

Ontario Tech University is seeking an energetic data analyst with strong data management and programming skills to support the university’s institutional research agenda. Reporting to the Director, Office of Institutional Research and Analysis the incumbent will be responsible for reporting on a wide range of data on university activities. The position will produce professional quality, accurate, reliable, timely and user-friendly reports.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce professional quality, well-written documents for internal and external distribution to various stakeholders for decision making;
  • Programming standard and ad-hoc data reports, and writing reports using BI reporting and data visualization tools;
  • Produce admission and registration tracking reports, confirmation analysis, along with official Day 1/10 reporting;
  • Complete various mandatory reporting, such as DLI reporting for Statistics Canada, and Space reporting to the Council of Ontario Universities;
  • Responding to data requests from internal and external stakeholders and compiling reports;
  • Assisting with the review of data provided for external reporting by other units to assure consistency in definitions and reporting assumptions;
  • Providing support for updates to the University Fact Book, Common University Data Ontario, and other institutional key performance indicators;
  • Undertake various institutional research projects as assigned by the Director, Office of Institutional Research and Analysis.



Required Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel spreadsheet skills are required, including the use of Excel functions, formulae and pivot tables.
  • Demonstrated experience in data base techniques such as SQL as well as understand the capabilities and constraints of the information technology environment.
  • Experience with an integrated enterprise management software system (Cognos BI) is preferred, as is experience in a post-secondary institution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing and presentation skills, effective interpersonal skills, discretion, tact and diplomacy.

Required Experience

3+ years’ experience in an area related to data analysis, data management, computer programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required; however, advanced degrees are considered an asset.
