The project was expanded for a further five-years in 2016 with Bechtel’s work focusing on providing residential accommodation and education facilities - including a 18,000-student 'greenfield' university - as well as roads, bridges, medical centers, and power, water and waste facilities.


Job Dimensions:

Bechtel is seeking a Material Engineering Specialist to provide material selection and corrosion management advice to RC in materials ensuring cost effective material selection and corrosion mitigation strategies which will ensure (technical) integrity of the materials applied in subsurface and surface hydrocarbon production, processing and transportation systems through their life cycle.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Selecting the best combination of materials for specific purposes
  • Knowledge of materials testing methods to assess how resistant they are to heat, corrosion or chemical attack
  • Analyzing data using computer modeling software (Finite Element Analysis)
  • Assessing materials for specific qualities (such as electrical conductivity, durability, renewability)
  • Considering the implications for waste and other environmental pollution issues of any product or process
  • Advising on the adaptability of new materials/technologies to new processes/specifications
  • Ability to solve problems arising during design process or post Construction, such as those caused by daily wear and tear or a change of environment
  • Ability to perform quality control throughout the Construction phase
  • Reviewing design packages for all type of Construction areas (Industrial, Residential, Site development etc.)
  • Ensuring that selected material during design comply with national and international quality standards
  • Advising on inspection, maintenance and repair procedures
  • Ability to supervise the work of field teams
  • Evaluate the costs implications of materials used and alternatives, in terms of both time and money
  • Taking account of energy usage in manufacturing and in-service energy saving, e.g. in transport and construction applications.


Essential Qualifications:

  • University Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or higher in a Metallurgic, materials engineering, technology or science, with main focus at the bellow areas: Industrial projects (Cooling plants, Industrial waste water treatment plants), Residential Projects, Infrastructure/Utilities Projects, Roads/Bridges projects
  • Experience should be a minimum of 12 years professional experience in the Metallurgy/Materials discipline.
  • Background in engineering, as well as knowledge in the field of process technology, metallurgy, equipment design, and corrosion degradation modes.
  • Mastery in depth competencies a in material selection (metallic & non-metallic materials), corrosion principles, metallurgy and welding, corrosion protection, corrosion management, pipeline inspection and maintenance, integrity of static equipment, cathodic protection and coating systems.
  • Good communication skills for presenting technical data, both in writing and orally, to colleagues from your discipline and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to take individual responsibility and make decisions
  • Commercial awareness
  • An interest in scientific, technical issues and research studies
  • Ability to apply scientific reasoning to industrial situations
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to prioritize and plan effectively.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Desirable to be either a LEED or BREAM accredited professional.
  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the particular discipline.
  • Experience in contract management with knowledge of contract interpretation in an engineering consultation environment.
  • Supervising, managing & mentoring internal staff.
  • Experience in managing and directing external international consultants in best planning practices.
  • Experience working in KSA or Middle East.
  • Successful implementation of mentoring programs for young engineers.
  • Able to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Multi-tasking co-ordination skill while executing complex and challenging project /program execution.
