Main Purpose and Function
This position is responsible for a variety of moderately difficult, recurring clerical and processing functions involving the review and processing of Development Permit extensions and renewals.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Working under the guidance of the Manager or Supervisor, the incumbent will work on a variety of development permit files, making independent decisions on development permit extensions and renewals, utilizing knowledge of departmental procedures and policies and the related provisions of the Zoning and Development By-law and other related by-laws. This position liaises with other City departments, researches departmental records, prepares and distributes all related correspondence, provides information to the public and staff in other City departments on the status of development permits, performs a variety of other related clerical duties as required, and may be required to provide back-up to other clerical positions within the workgroup.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Completion of Grade 12 including, or supplemented by, commercial courses.
  • Considerable related experience and functional knowledge of departmental procedures and policies related to the processing of development permits and other related permits.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions using sound judgement and in keeping with the intent of the provisions of the Zoning and Development By-law.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a large volume of work with changing priorities.
  • Strong computer skills along with demonstrated competence in a variety of main-frame and word processing systems, including MS Office programs, PRISM, POSSE, DOMINO,VanMap, License Plus and Notification 2008, along with the ability to calculate fees and adjustments.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be able to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and a diverse group of staff in a variety of other City departments.
  • Must have the ability to deal tactfully with the public, by phone and in person, and provide clear information and advice when called upon.
