Sidra Medical & Research Center’s Department of Radiology will have multiple campuses and an international reputation for providing excellence in clinical care, teaching and biomedical research. The Department of Radiology coordinates its medical services and collaborates its research and educational activities with Weill Cornell Medical College - Qatar. The level of Qatari interest and support in medical quality, education, innovative research and technology has already resulted in significant discoveries and highly functional research organizations that will collaborate with Sidra. The Department of Radiology at Sidra Medical and Research Center offers a comprehensive range of routine and advanced Diagnostic Imaging services for women and children, equipped with state of the art technology in a completely digital imaging environment. The Diagnostic Imaging Department of Radiology is made up of the following services, delivered in accordance with best practice standards whilst being driven by ‘clinical evidence’ methodologies, in a patient-centered, highly collaborative environment: General Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, Bone Mineral Densitometry, Ultrasound, MRI, Interventional Radiography, Intraoperative MRI, CT, Nuclear medicine, PET/CT. A broad range of services will be provided including the use of novel and upcoming technologies. It is anticipated that, by providing specialist and subspecialist expertise in an integrated team environment and concomitantly conducting research, Sidra will become a substantive referral center for patients within and outside Qatar.

Job Summary

The Radiologist will provide specialist clinical radiology services for the Department of Radiology with particular regard to service provision in women’s, pediatric and neonatal imaging for patients and medical research. The individual occupying this position reports directly to the Division Chief - Body Imaging and works cooperatively with radiologists, department staff and other stakeholders, including referring clinicians and patients. They provide educational support in radiology to junior medical and other staff.

The Radiologist will have an academic appointment to Weill Cornell Medical College – Qatar.
Through the diagnostic interpretation of high quality images, the Radiologist is responsible for ensuring a high standard of service is continually provided to all patients, their families and other hospital staff as prescribed in the patient care and facility standards set down by Sidra Medical and Research Center. It is expected that the radiologist will perform research or pursue approved academic initiatives during dedicated academic time, which will be provided every week. Furthermore, participation in continuous quality improvement is mandatory and it is expected that all staff will contribute to this important and continually evolving process.

Key Role Accountabilities
  • Perform and provide interpretation of diagnostic radiologic imaging examinations, and provide diagnostic consultation related to diagnostic imaging to other members of the medical staff. Examinations, procedures, and studies performed will include the full range of diagnostic work that would be performed by an appropriately credentialed diagnostic radiologist. Routine studies such as plain film interpretation, the wide range of fluoroscopic examinations and common imaging procedures for children, and the interpretation of MRI, CT scans, and ultrasound are required.
  • Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by Qatar State Law
  • Provides clinical services as assigned. Responsible for clinical services provided in area during assigned time frame, which could include an evening shift rotation and participation in on call roster. All scheduling in radiology is established at the direction of the Chief of Radiology.
  • Provide advice and opinions in support of diagnostic interpretations of radiological examinations and procedures as provided in conjunction with patient care.
  • Read STAT and emergency diagnostic imaging studies and provide verbal/written results of critical values to clinical staff as directed by the facility policy.
  • Develops assists and/or participates in medical research/academic projects as directed by the Chief of Radiology.
  • Is accessible and available to referring physicians, technologists & clerical staff. Maintains good working relationships with peers, as well as with technical and clerical staff. Provides quality services as demonstrated by accuracy of diagnoses and compliance with local legislation and ACR Documentation Standard. Works cooperatively with other members of department to ensure that a high standard of patient care services is maintained.
  • Sidra will be using a structured report format (reporting templates) and all radiologists will be required to issue reports in this format. Furthermore, all reports will be issued via voice recognition software.
  • Sidra is a digital environment, and as such, it is expected that radiologists will become fluent in the use of appropriate digital systems; training will be provided.
  • Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with policies and regulations of the facility.
  • Ensures quality improvement programs and competency assessment initiatives for the Department of Radiology are followed by the radiology patient care team
  • Undertakes appraisals of staff as directed. Assists with the process of recruiting Radiologists as requested. Assists with orientation for new Radiologists, as requested. Participates in professional local, regional and/or national organizations and meetings. Participates in other service activities in support of the facility
  • Participates in mandatory training and actively practices continual professional development in alignment with Sidra’s professional development programs to ensure maintenance of professional licensure/accreditation
  • Develops and/or delivers training programs to new employees on equipment and procedures in the area of operations in alignment with the department’s and Sidra’s training objectives and plans
  • Is an educational resource for radiology and contributes to the education of patients, staff and physicians and other stakeholders as required
  • Provides support and relief for other Radiologists as required
  • Participates in community outreach programs and teleradiology initiatives undertaken by the organization
  • Observes and implements departmental and applicable organizational policies, procedures, regulations and information to the radiology patient care team
  • Adheres to and promotes compliance with the hospital’s radiation safety and protection policy and associated codes of practice, and takes appropriate action where non-compliance is evident
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, and maintains patient confidentiality at all times
  • Attends divisional and other meetings as requested. Serves on Departmental, Hospital, and University Committees, as requested

  • Adheres to the medical staff bylaws.


In view of the developing and changing needs and opportunities within Sidra during this start-up phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Qualifications

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
  • Medical Degree (E.g MD, MBBS, MBBCH)
  • Completion of residency program with specialty experience or training in Radiology from an accredited Western Board


Experience
  • 2+ years of post-certification/residency in Diagnostic Imaging in the relevant field from a North American Academic/ Health care Institution or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, or other European Countries with accredited and recognized board, Australia or New Zealand.
  • Experience at a dedicated paediatric or women’s medical imaging facility (Preferred)
  • Knowledge and clinical experience in paediatric or women’s imaging (Preferred)


Certification
  • Valid professional License in the country of origin or country of practice in the specialty area
  • Board Certification or its equivalent in Radiology from an accredited Western Board
  • Eligible for licensure as a Radiologist in the State of Qatar
