Distribution Centre Manager


General Accountabilities

The Distribution Centre Manager is responsible for all daily activities of distribution centre operations, including product receipt, inventory management, order fulfillment and outbound shipping of all company-sponsored products. This role closely coordinates with plant managers and customer service representatives regarding shipment status.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and directs all phases of receiving, warehousing, kitting, packing, consolidation, shipping, customs/traffic, Canadian/US/International shipments for up to 250 orders/day with over 10,000 SKU’s
  • Efficiently manages labor-especially the picking and packing using standard work/flow diagrams and other tools
  • Analyzes shipments frequently to assure best cost routing, consolidation, appropriate packaging and makes recommendations to Customer Service/Supply Chain/Management Team on how to improve processes
  • Forecast staffing, workload and performance results to meet business demands for all areas of responsibility for a team of 45+ employees, consisting of salary and hourly employees
  • Challenges all non-value added work and any new requirement where cost is being added but not revenue
  • Creates high morale and maintains a disciplined workplace environment
  • Executes company policies fairly and justly 
  • Select and manages carriers to perform distributions on assigned routes
  • Creates, maintains and compliance of freight, customs and other service policies
  • Looks for improvement in total cycle time and maintains stable service and fill metrics; Drive results by developing, monitoring, and reporting key performance indicators for success within all aspects of distribution activities
  • Participates in annual budget process and monitors and analyzes monthly budget performance to meet or exceed budget
  • Identifies need for, designs, and ensures implementation of inventory controls ensuring adequate material availability to support sales and meets agreed customer requirements
  • Communicates with internal and external stakeholders, and with other departments of the company on any changes or issues
  • Reduces the likelihood of accidents or other safety concerns to work towards the elimination of unsafe work practices
  • Operates distribution within and exceeds professional standards and benchmarks
  • Remains aware of industry trends and is responsible for the efficient operation of Supply Distribution within budgetary constraints
  • Evaluates and recommends shipping deadlines and takes corrective action to eliminate behind-schedule conditions, pertaining to vendor delivery management
  • Continuous Improvement leader for distribution and freight 


Qualifications

  • College or University education with applicable warehouse logistics skills
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of direct management experience with high mix distribution center
  • Managed at least 250,000 sq. feet or larger
  • Global supply chain experience (receiving product)


Skills

  • Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Exhibits order fulfillment and automated systems control knowledge
  • Ability to analyze data to determine the best locations and velocity
  • Proficiency in MS Windows Office Suite software, ERP
  • Excellent communication and people development skills
  • Superior verbal and written expertise and strong interpersonal abilities to engage with individuals at all levels, across the organization, both internally and externally
