Pincher Creek Co-op invites applications for the position of Accountant.

The Pincher Creek Co-op is currently accepting applications for an Accountant to join our team. This is a full-time 1 year temporary maternity coverage position and required to start as soon as possible.



Job Title: Accountant – 1 Year Temporary (Maternity)
Department: Administration
Start Date: December 1, 2019
End Date: January 31, 2021
Location: Co-op Mall



Responsibilities:
The Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Participation in health and safety programs
  • Payroll including general Team Member system updates and processing records of employment
  • Prepare WCB remittances, as well as prepare and post period end GST remittances
  • Understand and be able to explain equity and benefits to Co-op members
  • Prepare weekly SPEH Report
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements
  • Gross margin analysis
  • Expense analysis
  • Assist with processing of sales, payables and receivables
  • General ledger and sub-ledger reconciliations
  • Petroleum reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Other accounting and supervisory duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ previous accounting experience
  • University Degree or 2-year college diploma with an accounting major
  • Proficient in a variety of computer applications, including MS Word and advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Understanding of federal and provincial tax application in a retail & petroleum sales environment
  • Must work within strict confidentiality guidelines
  • Ability to deal with a diverse and fast paced work schedule and to work with a sense of urgency
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team required


Reporting to the Controller, this position requires strong technical knowledge, math skills, self-motivation, organizational skills and interpersonal skills. Candidates with an Accounting diploma or degree are preferred. Related experience in the Co-operative Retailing System would be considered an asset.
