We’re looking for a client-focused individual with recent experience of providing specialist level housing, debt or welfare benefits advice, to join us as an Advice, Support and Guidance Worker and help ensure our clients get the support they need.

Shelter Birmingham is a dynamic city centre hub offering a holistic integrated advice and support service to the diverse residents of the city. We provide specialist advice and support to over 4,000 clients a year and are committed to delivering more of what we do to the people who need us most. All of our clients are offered a full range of interventions that will fully resolve their circumstances.

About The Role

As Advice, Support and Guidance Worker, you will deliver an integrated, yet flexible, advice and support service aimed at advising clients on their rights and responsibilities and working as a team to then find and retain accommodation. Carrying out initial housing needs assessments and developing a strategy with the client, supporting them when moving into accommodation and connecting them with local support services are also key elements of this role.

About You

To succeed, you’ll need relevant experience gained working within housing , debt or welfare benefit advice and within a safeguarding framework working with vulnerable people or those with multiple and complex needs. We’ll also be looking for a proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, both statutory and non-statutory. Proficiency using a range of IT tools to carry out your work, including case management systems, Microsoft Office applications, internet and email etc. is important too, with the ability to type preferred. Proactive, results-driven and sensitive to the needs of others, you work well within a team and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas, methods and processes if appropriate.
