  • The Protection and Controls (P&C) Designer works with a multi-discipline team of engineers and designers to provide a construction ready design package which includes all the relays and controls used in a high voltage substations.

    The P&C designer will prepare Schematic Diagrams, Front View Drawings, Material Lists, , Wiring Diagrams and Construction Specifications under the guidance of a lead engineer or lead designer.

    Essential Functions Of Position
    • Prepare electrical schematics based on One Line Diagrams.
    • Prepare and develop three line diagrams wiring diagrams, control and relaying panel layouts and specifications; control and relaying panel and equipment wiring and interconnection diagrams in strict accordance with client specifications and industry standards. Wiring Diagrams are point to point type.
    • Design systems including Protective relays, Meters, Control Circuits, Annunciators, batteries and chargers.
    • Work closely with other engineering and design team members to develop overall design package and requirements.
    • Provide a detailed design package that complies with applicable engineering design standards and all safety codes.
    • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, specifications, evaluations, and material requisitions.
    • Provide voltage drop calculations and conduit fill calculations as required. Specify cable types and sizes in accordance with client specifications and industry standards. Size AC & DC panel board circuits.
    • Coordinate equipment deliveries and design development to meet project schedules.
    • Acquire on-site field data to accomplish the design or to monitor and evaluate equipment performance.
    • Provide and extremely high degree of technical quality and accuracy in compliance with Company standards. Provide P&C design deliverables on time and on budget.
    • An Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent). Hands on electrical and technical experience will be strongly considered.
    • 3 - 10 years experience preferred, 10+ years also encouraged to apply
    • AutoCAD or Microstation drafting experience is preferred.
    • Applicants with a thorough knowledge of design and construction processes of utility substations with a concentration in protection and control packages would be a distinct advantage.
    • Similar Electrical Consulting or Industrial design experience will be strongly considered.
    • Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
