Job Purpose :

To manage and implement the editorial strategy and vision of the HBKU Press list and to work with authors in Qatar and internationally and to be responsible for managing books, editorial policies and procedures.


Key Result Areas:   

  • Develop a high-quality and commercially successful publishing list for the general reader encompassing print and digital

  • Create a publishing plan to carry out the publishing strategy of books according to the HBKU Press mission and vision   

  • Recommend and develop international and regional authors and titles to the Executive Director for publication of original texts and translations

  • Represent the list and HBKU Press if required at book fairs, conferences, or literary events

  • Liaise with management to ensure all author/translator contracts meet HBKU Press legal standards

  • Participate in editorial acquisition, progress and trade meetings as required as well as relevant sales, marketing and PR planning for authors/books to request support where needed with promotion, marketing, and publicizing strategies

  • Work with authors to ensure their books are edited to a professional level including recommendations for structural changes, as well as editing for style, consistency and overall readability

  • Identify and coordinate with freelance advisors, editors, reviewers, and translators to ensure that all manuscripts and books are reviewed and edited to HBKU Press’s level standards and procedures

  • Monitor and manage editorial schedules for title list with support

  • Other reasonable tasks as assigned by supervisor





    Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience:


          

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

  • 8 – 10 years of editorial experience in publishing, ideally in a management position

  • Outstanding knowledge, skills and experience in the field of international publishing and familiarity with processes

  • Interest in publishing trends, including digital media and cross platform publishing

  • Exceptional writing and reading/critical/analytical skills

  • Ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
