We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager who is looking for more than just a job. As a Senior Technical Program Manager for our products, you will play a central role in our R&D organization. You will ensure that our software releases are of the highest quality, are delivered on time, and include all specified features. You will be integrated with the engineering teams, working closely with them on programs that are related to the core backup and restore business, along with new and on-going initiatives. You will also play a key role in ensuring that the product line is successfully aligned cross functionally from a go to market perspective.

Our development lab is located near the QEW at Winston Churchill Blvd., accessible by both Mississauga Transit and Oakville Transit. We are a short bus ride from Clarkson GO station. Specific Objectives And Responsibilities




Your First Six Months
  • Internalize Carbonite’s culture and values. This is a key to future success.
  • Become familiar with our teams and our development processes.
  • Get acquainted with our server backup product suites & team members.
  • Take ownership of coordinating and running team activities.
  • Develop broad awareness of cross-team dependencies to identify potential risks/issues.
  • Hold your first official program review for your product line.
  • Help team members scope and investigate issues in order to make meaningful progress for each release.
  • Work across teams both within the server backup product suite and external to the team to prevent potential issues and to align our schedules/goals.
Six to Twelve Months and Beyond
  • Identify and drive improvements in team processes and communication.
  • Deliver 6-12 month roadmaps for all projects within our product suite.
  • Take ownership of projects, helping drive them from start to completion.
  • Ensure project/product planning aligns with acquisition business case synergies.
  • Become the “go to” for status and visibility for product related projects, both for Engineering and across functions.
Key Challenges to Overcome

You will collaborate closely with Engineering, QA, Product Managers, and Operations teams to work on the delivery of our products
  • Ensure products meet release requirements.
  • Work with the product owners to ensure delivered stories can be costed and built.
  • Help team keep stories/defects updated to track progress towards sprint/release goals.
  • Assist to proactively identify potential risks and address any impediments.
  • Proactively identify project dependencies and gain commitment from all involved.
  • Communicate status and risks to stakeholders.
  • Work with external partners and vendors to gather and provide feedback that impacts team.
  • Lead the team using Agile Methodologies to complete short-term releases on time and on budget as well as hit long-term roadmap milestones.
  • Aid the team on Scrum/Agile best practices and processes, including
  • Daily stand-up meetings and triage of defects.
  • Sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
  • Create and update cross-functional release schedules and roadmaps.
  • Work with engineering and PM peers to foster a climate of collaboration, accountability and result.
  • At times take on company critical short term initiatives that are our of scope for standard roadmaps.
  • Prioritize workload to optimize output for company strategy and goals.
If successful, you will enable the Engineering, Product, Operations, and all Core functions of the business to focus on forward-looking strategic initiatives.

  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment.

Skills & Experience
  • 4 years as owner of software programs; must have shipping experience.
  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science or related field required.
  • Integrity must be a fundamental part of your character.
  • Strong track record of success in fast-paced software, Internet, or tech-enabled companies.
  • Previous software developer and/or development management experience ideal.
  • Basic familiarity with data protection technologies, especially complex physical backup
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Strong cross-team collaboration skills with demonstrable successes.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across disciplines.
