The Position:


Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement, the Director of Development is part of the senior management team and provides leadership, strategy and management for the Faculty’s fundraising and donor stewardship staff.

In collaboration with the Executive Director of Advancement, the Director provides leadership in the preparation, implementation and management of a faculty-wide development strategy and plans; trains, coaches and develops the call officer team; provides leadership, guidance and advice to departmental chairs and centre directors with respect to specific fundraising projects; ensures necessary operational procedures and systems are in place to support development activities; andsupports the oversight of a comprehensive stewardship program.


The Director also leads and manages a portfolio of personal prospects for cultivation and solicitation as a key component of this role and leads by example for the development team in terms of performance. The Director collaborates with the Executive Director of Advancement in the training of volunteers. In addition, the Director will hire, train, develop and manage a dynamic team of development professionals and will liaise closely with departmental staff involved in advancement activities. The Director works closely with others as a member of the Advancement team at the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and the Division of University Advancement.


The Candidate:


Education:


University degree with an exceptional combination of education and experience. MBA or post graduate degree, CFRE strongly preferred.


Experience:


Minimum of eight years related experience in progressively more responsible fundraising roles, preferably in the post-secondary education system or not for profit organizations, with a preference given to candidates with science or engineering advancement experience. Proven track record of raising significant dollars and making asks. Significant proven managerial and supervisory experience. Knowledge and experience interacting with major gift donors, volunteers, alumni and industry representatives is essential.
