Description
The research center on stability, instability and weak turbulence at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for fully-funded postdoctoral research associate positions in the following areas:
- Stability of 2D/3D crowd motion and multi-level building evacuation using mean-field-type games.
- Stability of singularity formation in fluid systems.
- Nonlinear instabilities and transition thresholds in Couette flow
- Wave turbulence
- Stability in geophysical fluids and plasmas physics
The research center on stability, instability and turbulence (SITE) is highly interdisciplinary. SITE aims to develop novel enabling technology on hydrodynamic stability analysis that has applications in the study of the development of singularities, the long-time behavior of complex systems, the formation of spatial patterns, the transition between stability and instability, and the first steps of transition towards turbulence that appear in several disciplines across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation.
New York University has established itself as a Global Network University, a multi-site, organically connected network encompassing key global cities and idea capitals. The network has three foundational degree-granting campuses: New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai, complemented by a network of over 15 research and study away sites across five continents. Faculty and students will circulate within the network in pursuit of common research interests and cross-cultural, interdisciplinary endeavors, both local and global. NYU Abu Dhabi has recruited a cohort of faculty who are at once distinguished in their research and teaching. Our students are drawn from around the world and surpass all traditional recruitment benchmarks, both US and global. NYU Abu Dhabi’s highly selective liberal arts enterprise is complemented by an institute for advanced research, sponsoring cutting-edge projects across the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Engineering.
Candidates must hold (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field. PhD holders with a strong publication record, a background in singularity formation, 3D deep strategic learning, and experience with experimental and computational mean-field-type game theory are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted immediately. To be considered, all applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research and teaching interests, representative publications and three recommendation letters, all in PDF format, to: nm30@nyu.edu. The anticipated appointment starting date is January 1st, 2020 and applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
