Spatial Scientist - Austrailia

Accountabilities include:
  • Acquire, process, interpret, present, maintain and validate geospatial information and databases. Assemble, analyse, interpret, and report on spatial data from appropriate systems, providing information through high quality mapping products or reports as required by the client.
  • Operate departmental Geographic Information System (GIS) software and support departmental users of GIS technology. Provide specialist mapping and GIS services.
  • Assist with survey or spatial related activities when required. Deliver geospatial projects, products and services (group training) to meet departmental requirements.
  • Develop a sound knowledge of departmental policies and procedures
  • Represent the region, as required, at meetings and forums dealing with spatial science related matters.
This role reports to the Principal Surveyor and has no direct reports.

Mandatory Requirements:
  • Minimum of a 3 year degree Spatial Science from a recognised tertiary institution, or qualifications which in the opinion of the Director General, under advice of the Head of Discipline, are equivalent.
  • Current holder of a Class C driver's licence.
Desirable Requirements:
  • Professional certification (General or Specialist (GISP-AP)) with the Surveying and Spatial Science Institute (SSSI).
  • Experience using MapInfo will be highly regarded.
