Investment Accounting Specialist

 Job Objective

To assist in the formulation of financial and accounting policies, procedures and systems and facilitate their consistent implementation across the organization


Actively perform research and investigation into any technical matters relating to new accounting policies/standards, ensure consistency in application.


Conduct financial analysis, feasibility studies for special projects and participate in the process of making recommendation to management.


Key Accountabilities


Strategy Contribution


  • Support the strategic planning exercise by providing relevant financial data and carrying out feasibility studies to assess viability of proposed projects.


  • Contribute to the provision of financial advice and financial information to the organization's management through effective operation of the Finance accounting function and control of key financial process.


Policies & Procedures and Systems


  • Participate in the drafting of policies, procedures and controls covering all areas of the Department activities so that relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled.


  • Familiarise with all relevant accounting standards and their latest developments/modifications, ensure the accounting team is prepared and ready for any implementation.


  • Implement work processes designed to enhance internal control within Finance and processes in providing sound accounting advice to the Finance team.


  • Assist in the implementation of computerized accounting systems and design controls and review process to ensure Finance provides, effective support to management. 


Budget Preparation


  • Contribute to the preparation and approval of operating and capital budgets and monitor these by designing appropriate controls so that the organization operates within the budget framework.


Accounting Activities


  • Contribute to the preparation of financial statements and maintenance of books of accounts with the aim to ensure that financial statements are prepared in accordance with IFRS.


  • Participate in the implementation of new computerized accounting system or enhancements, ensuring that the new system takes in consideration compliance with relevant accounting standards.


Periodic Accounting Closure Schedules


  • Assist in the preparation and review of the month-end and year-end closing schedules aimed at meeting all critical deadlines.


  • Assist in the general ledger closing activities and ensure that these are completed in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.



Coordination for Audit Formalities


  • Coordinate with the Internal Auditor, ensuring the proper maintenance of all financial records and their adherence to approved accounting policies, procedures, work instructions and authorization levels.


  • Liaise with internal and external auditors regarding audit requirements and implement audit recommendations.


Financial Advice

  • Ensure timely and accurate provision of financial data to the various departments within the organization aimed at facilitating efficient business operations and decision making process.


  • Assist in the review, analyze and interpret accounting and financial reports for senior management and provide assistance in formulating recommendations to management.


  • Assist in the implementation of computerized accounting system including project progress monitoring and contribute to the development of system user procedures.


Reports


  • Contribute to preparation of departmental reports for Finance Department and all concerned departments within the organization. Ensure reports are produced in a timely and accurate manner meeting the organization's and departmental, requirements and reports are prepared in accordance with policies and standards.


Qualification, Experience & Skills


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent. 
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CPA or CAT is mandatory.

Minimum Experience:

  • 8-10 years in Accounting with experience in General Ledger management and preparation of financial statements.
