  • The Substation Engineer, depending on level of experience is responsible for supporting or leading substation engineering project teams, with the development of General Arrangements for Substations, Equipment Plans, Elevations, and Sections, Control House Layouts, Grounding design, Conduit and cable design, Creation of Bills of Materials, and Cable schedules utilizing Microsoft Office and MicroStation software.

    Substation Physical design, occasional site visits and station walkdowns, estimating, and attending project meetings. Must be able to complete assignments within budget and schedule with a high degree of accuracy. Must have a willingness to work overtime as required.

    Essential Functions Of Position

  • Design various substation systems of varying size and complexity under the direction of the incumbent's supervisor or other professional engineer. Activities may include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Preliminary design and budgetary estimate.
  • Detailed design and estimates
  • Equipment specification, proposal evaluation and requisitioning.
  • Engineering calculations to assure safety and performance of equipment and systems.
  • Coordinating equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines and/or offices to ensure project requirements are consistent.
  • Application of instruments and controls.
  • Gather or acquire on-site measurements and other data to accomplish the design or enable the evaluation of equipment performance.
  • Checking completed job for adequacy of design and documentation.
  • Monitor the construction of various electrical systems as assigned to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Activities may include, but not be limited to, the following:
  • Monitor construction work to assure conformance with plans and specifications.
  • Monitor work to assure compliance with applicable engineering and construction codes and practices.
  • Monitor construction schedules to ensure timely completion of the work.
  • Direct changes to the work when requested by the Resident Engineer.
  • Carry out programs for the testing of materials, equipment, or plant systems at the direction of the Resident Engineer.
  • Aid in evaluation and approval of contractor invoices.
  • Act as Resident Engineer, when required, on projects of moderate size and complexity.
  • Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives.
  • Prepare reports and feasibility studies for submission to management.
  • Serve as project coordinator, project engineer, or project manager on assigned projects.
  • Shall promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping.
  • Be familiar with the Company's drawing system, industry standards, National Electric Safety Code, and the Company's design and construction standards.
    • Bachelor of Science in relevant engineering field
    • 3 - 10 years of experience preferred, 10+ years of experience also encouraged to apply
    • P.E. license, or ability to acquire P.E.
