Role Overview:
McElhanney Ltd. is looking for a Survey Technologist to join our Survey Team in Kitimat, BC. This is a great opportunity for an experienced individual who would like to be exposed to a mixture of office and field experience. In this role you will have the opportunity to work major projects occurring in the Kitimat area related to LNG and pipeline infrastructure development. Other work undertaken in the area is related to commercial and municipal infrastructure. The majority of the work is engineering and construction survey, with some legal work. Our varied local workload can have us using drones, laser scanners and precision equipment daily basis!

This is an excellent for residency in Kitimat to take advantage of long-term opportunities. However, a rotational schedule may be considered. A relocation allowance is available to incumbents intending to reside in the Kitimat area.

Responsibilities :
  • Lead Field Survey Crew and prepare accurate notes, sketches and field data
  • Interpret and edit field data, notes and sketches, complete calculations as needed and prepare for drafting or client project reporting
  • Liaising with Project Managers and clients regarding enquiries and issues
  • Implementing and ensuring quality assurance on all field returns
  • Interpret Engineering plans for layout and quantities as well as quality assurance checks

Requirements:
  • Degree or technical diploma in Geomatics with at least 3 years of progressive experience in a survey tech/party chief role; experience in legal and engineering surveys is a strong asset
  • Experience with AutoCAD and survey computation software and/or GPS
  • Experience with UAV (Drone) or Terrestrial Laser Scanners is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of survey calculations, geodetic coordinate systems and map projections
  • Capable of computations and assessment of found legal evidence in the field when necessary
  • Strong communication, leadership, and motivational skills
  • Ability to travel for field positions, sometimes for extended periods
  • Ability to work effectively in various geographical settings, weather conditions, and climates.
